Boo, Scarey, Scarey, Boo! Halloween from Me to You!

Halloween was celebrated on Saturday night this year at Castle Von-Clarkula. Well, at the school parties on Friday (except for Cam who was sick and missed his Kindergarten Halloween party), at the girls' Halloween piano recital last week and at the ward's Trunk-O'-Treat on Saturday night.

Natalie's shoe choice wasn't intentional. We just couldn't find her black mary janes. Strangely, the sneakers suited her personality a lot better!

The Mind of Cam

Cameron loves putting pen (or marker or crayon) to paper and creating. Sometimes it is just a line of random letters. Other times it is shapes. More commonly it is a treasure map or drawings of people.

Here's one of Cameron, me, a couple of miscellaneous imaginary pets and, as Cameron says, "My friend Daddy."

Brett is the one with the big blue ears

That is a new thing lately. Anytime he sees a photo of Brett or draws a picture of him or even sees Brett drive up in the truck, Cameron declares "Look! It's my friend Daddy."Absolutely no idea where that came from. (Though I am his Mommy, I do not rate the designation of 'my friend' which is apparently reserved for the parent of the more cool gender.)

This morning, Cameron brought down this dinosaur and started telling us about the colors of its skin. A couple hours later, I saw him drawing on a paper with the dinosaur sitting next to it. Every so often he'd look up from his paper at the dinosaur before returning to his work.

And this is the result of his great dinosaur portraiture:

It may not look anything special to most people, but to us it is amazing. It shows us what is going on in his head and displaying new abilities and awareness.

We've had lots of new experiences with Cam lately, which, while they wouldn't mean much to anyone else, are like little miracles to us.

The day Cameron came home and told us about something that had happened at school that day. (On picture day, he told us he 'couldn't sit down for the picture.')

When he told me about 'the blue owwie' on one of his hippotherapy helper's arms.

The day that he collected the mail and brought me an envelope telling me that it was for Max. Sure enough, it had Max's name on it, but we don't know if he recognized the name or associated the scout logo on the envelope with Max.

A paper onto which he had carefully copied the title of his library book: 'VOLCANOES.' Cam is really into volcanoes these days.

This week when he asked me 'Mommy, do you know where my tape measure is?' How many amazing things are in that sentence? Nine (count them!) NINE words in a sentence? He communicated a need. Every word was present for a full sentence. He addressed me directly, using my name and looking into my eyes.

What a delight to watch his little mind unfolding.
